Mental and Emotional Well-Being
Your birth and death are not in your hands. But how you live in the meantime is your responsibility. This article explores this belief, why it can seem controversial, and how it can guide us to live with meaning, peace, and mental and emotional well-being.
Birth and Death Are Not in Our Hands
You did not choose:
What country you were born in?
Will you be born into a rich or poor home?
What family or culture do you belong to?
Your physical appearance, skin color, or natural talents.
Did your mother decide these things from the womb? If no, then life is beyond human control.
Similarly, you cannot choose:
The time of your death. That is where it will happen. Will it come naturally or unexpectedly? Science and medicine can extend life, but no one can escape death. It makes us realize how little control we really have over the grand scheme of things. So what do we have in our hands? While birth and death are not in our control, the journey of life between those two points is yours. You can choose: How you treat people. How you deal with challenges. How you build your character. How you take care of your mental and emotional well-being. You can determine that.
This is where true freedom lies. You cannot control the beginning and the end, but you can control the quality of the middle. The problem begins when we forget this truth.
1. Chasing consumerism
People spend their lives chasing money, fame and possessions, forgetting that none of these things will go with them after death. This, if not understood, damages emotional well-being and mental health.
Solution: Focus on values, relationships and experiences instead of just material things.
2. Stress about the future
Many people are constantly worried about what will happen tomorrow. But what will happen tomorrow is uncertain. Every second, millions of people in the world die for some reason or the other. So we should take all the problems of this life as light and find a way to solve them. If we don't, stress destroys good health and mental well-being.
Solution: Be mindful. Live in the present moment. Appreciate what you have today.
Because death is not under our control, many people live with a hidden fear. It reduces peace and affects mental health and emotional well-being.
Solution: Accept death as a natural part of life. Instead of fearing it, accepting this truth will help you live more fully.
4. Broken Relationships
The pursuit of success often leads people to neglect family and friends. Ultimately, it leads to regretting the loss of mental and emotional well-being. This makes many people lonely.
The solution: Value people over possessions. Spend some valuable time with the people around you. Time spent with loved ones brings lasting happiness.
Living Between Birth and Death: The Real Journey To live meaningfully between birth and death, try these steps:
Practice gratitude - Be grateful every day. Gratitude strengthens mental health. Get out of bed early, exercise, go for a short walk or cycle in the morning. Take time for yourself and work on your body and mind.
Take care of mental and emotional well-being - Balance work, rest and hobbies. Protect your mind and emotions.
Live simply - Don't complicate life with too many desires. Simplicity gives peace. Complexity does not.
Help others – Kindness, charity, helping the needy adds purpose to life and supports emotional well-being and mental health. See how your own soul blossoms. Accept change – Life is uncertain. Acceptance builds strength and resilience. A balanced philosophy of life Your belief that “nothing is in man’s hands” may seem controversial, but there is wisdom in it. It teaches humility – we are not the best controllers of life. At the same time, it teaches responsibility – because we cannot change birth and death, we can shape how we live.
This balance helps us build good mental health, peace of mind and emotional strength.
